Europe Trip Day 7

It was a free day, so most of the tour group decided to take on an optional tour up to Mount Titlis, a snow-capped mountain. The trip would cost 110 swiss francs.

we both decided on tackling Mount Pilatus which was really near Lucerne, and an alp-experience would only cost us 74 swiss francs if we made the trip ourselves.

Rose and headed to the train station to get our tickets. we bought a "Silver Round Trip" which took us by train to the foot of Pilatus, then a Cogwheel Railway up the the mountain, and Gondola followed by Cablecar down the mountain.

Travelling by train to Alpnachstad. I reckon swiss people must be very trustworthy citizens. nobody checked our tickets when we got on the train! there was also no barrier for ticket entry.

And we arrived at the foot of Pilatus!

Ascended to the mountain via the world's steepest cogwheel railway.

winding up through lush meadows as we head to the peak

started to see snow the higher we went!

The views were post-card-perfect & breath-taking!

More snow as we were nearing the peak!

We have arrived! time to explore the mountian :)

Paranomic view from the top! Before the fog came and engulfed our precious view...

It was freezing cold at the top!!! we were chilled to the bone when the wind blew.

explored one of the caves at the mountain. but it was too cold and slippery to continue walking! there was ice on the ground... afraid we'd fall off the cliff! legend has it that dragons used to hide in the caves.

trekking up... extremely cold...

Andrew's virgin experience with snow!

Trekked to the highest point at the mountain. every step was a battle against the chilly wind blowing against us. looking back, i really wonder why it was so cold that day...

Made it to the top and a bible verse greeted us! "Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men."

after that, it was getting way too cold so we decided to descend by a series of cable-car rides.

finally, fog started to clear and we could see again!

here we are at a mid-point of the mountain. simply beautiful.

starting to see civilisation as we journey to Kriens.

lazy cows sitting at the pastures... they were all wearing cow bells around their necks so you could hear the 'clong clong clong' as they grazed the grass.

Took a public bus back to Lucerne. and again, nobody checked our tickets. nobody tapped any fare card too. seemed to me public transport was free. haha.

I was starving! so we bought a box of potato wedges from McDonalds. This set us back by S$9! Food is really ex.

soon, dinner time came. and my tour mates were so interesting and fun! they suggested a cup noodle potluck. so everyone brought whatever they had bought and we had a swell time at the hotel corridor outside our rooms! look at the spread...

and I shall end off my switzerland post with photos of our room. clean and compact! enjoyed our stay there :) I'll definitely be back for switzerland!
